So...I went to watch the Conjuring...:THE WOW FACTORS
The Conjuring!!!!!!Well, after almost 2 weeks now since it has been released in Malaysia; finally I managed to spare some time to watch The Conjuring at a local cinema. It was a 7.15pm show and a friend of mine bought the tickets a day earlier.
It was a full house and we were sitting almost to the front (G 11 & G12) and we were late for about 5 mins. Before I decided to watch this horror movie, I've heard a lot of reviews, views or comments about this film. Most of the people I know watching this (including my brother) mentioned that it is super scary. I am a bit sceptical when it comes to horror movie. I guess I take it in a very contextual-manner/approach. I am more afraid of Asian Horror Movies because I can relate myself to the characters and the surrounding. That is the reason why I find the Conjuring is not that Ultra Scary because I said this to myself: I'm here in Malaysia and there they are far in Hollywood. So, the ghosts might have to travel by plane to get here. And another thing is; they will have to compete with our home-grown ghosts too! haha...
Ok, back to the movie. I have to give thumbs up to the director : James Wan; he is super genius and creative. I guess the reason why the movie works and manages to deliver the scare effect because of the Asian blend in it. And..... James Wan is a Malaysian Born director himself! And... He is from my homestate Sarawak!!!... Ok, I'm not going to be all sappy about him being fellow Malaysian and whatnot. I am not going to do reviews on that movie either....as I'm sure there are tons of movie aficionados have done that! Here I would just like to share my view of why the movie works quite well....atleast for me...well maybe....here is my 2 cents worth of opinion...I call them the WOW FACTOR....
WOW F. #1
The scenes are all moving in the right pace. Not too slow or fast.Just nice. And you get to see more of the rooms a.k.a settings, the characters (getting to know them well) and just enough time for you to reflect and think about the story..too long of that and you might doze off. Maybe because James Wan is Asian, therefore he thinks like one and I get what he tried to portrayed his movie. I guess, we Asians don't like to beat around the bush and just cut to the chase...straight to the point.
WOW F. #2
The background music/sound effects. The selection of music score suits the scenes very well. I don't feel sleepy or scared to death (some music make your heart beats so fast that you forgot the reason why you are in the cinema in the 1st place) Not too much sound effects or music needed.just enough will do. Less is more :P
WOW F. #3
The characters of course! Everyone can relate themselves to the Perron family (the mother-father and siblings) They are like any normal family and especially for Asian; it's just clicked!
The Real Perron Girls and the child-actresses who played them

Vera Farmiga and Lily Taylor are just perfect for the characters! I really like Vera who plays Lorraine Warren, she is just perfect for the role. Her eyes are so intense and the facial expressions really bring the audience closer to the eerie feeling that she was portraying.
WOW F. #4
It is as good as Insidious if not better.I think a well crafted horror movie does not really has to be filled with digital effects. I've seen movies that applied tons of digital effects and the movie ended up looking like 3D Cartoon...
Well, if you haven;t not watch it.Go to the nearest cinema and buy yourself a nice seat and popcorns! Enjoy!
