Keling Gawai UNIMAS 2019

Image
Joined a tribal pageant in the uni and I won!   Received the prize from Toh Puan Raghad Al Kurdi (2nd July 2019) The warrior costume that I wore was of the Kenyah (Orang Ulu) from Northern Sarawak (Miri). It was rented from a local bridal and I really love how colourful it is!

Bung Jagoi Mountain Climb 19th August

Image
We joined Sam and his family along with AJ for a weekend climb to the Bung Jagoi. It is a heritage site for the Bidayuhs (Jagoi clan). My family (dad's side) originated from this mountain village but they have moved down to Duyoh Village.  My family did attempt the climb back in 1985 when my mom was heavily pregnant with my sister. It was a trip during the Gawai celebration but we never made it to the top as my mom was not that fit with the baby inside her. I remembered how frustrating it was when my dad told us that we'd have to ditch the idea and return. So since then, I have never made it up there. It's rather ironic for a Jagoi Bidayuh not to climb the Bung Jagoi(I climbed the Singai Mountain instead)...  But finally, I made it.  Here are some photo. Enjoy!

Chiang Mai - a short trip

Image
Flew to Chiang Mai for a short weekend break. From Kuching we departed and continued on with a flight from KLIA2 (delayed until 4pm). As usual, go crazy on the delicious Thai foods. Reasonable prices despite weak Malaysian Ringgit(RM7.45 to 100baht).

Kuching Marathon 2017

Image
So I ran a 10km marathon in the Kuching Marathon. The last marathon (also a 10km) was in the Borneo Marathon in Kota Kinabalu back in 2014. So this time around, we ran at 5.30am and it was drizzling and cool morning to run a marathon. ENJOYED it so much, not so much running more like jogging. Finished within an hour and 15mins.

Privet from Moscow!! Vodka tastes so good...

The Journey to the Vodkaland So I was in Moscow from the 30th May till 10th of June 2017.Flew from Kuching to KLIA with the Malaysian Airlines and a later flight at around 11p.m. to London with the British Airways. Arrived 13 hours later at Heathrow and another B. A. flight to Moscow(D. M. E. Airport).I took a train to Moscow and it was a pleasant journey. Got lost a while in the metro station. It was very exciting indeed and it didn't take me too long to plan for this trip. Although getting the Russian Visa part can be quite daunting. I had to fly in and out of K. L like three trips just to have my Russian Visa sorted due to limited time and my hectic class schedule. Anyhow, proud of myself for making the trip to Moscow! I was staying at Arbatskaya Street in one of the apartment complexes like the above. It's very convenient as the restaurant and a sushi bar are located at the ground floor. I didn't get to see the other parts of the red square due to li

Vietnam trip ( Saigon and Hanoi)

Image
When I was there last June-July, I think it was the dry season with little rain. I don't really have any problem as Malaysia is as humid as Vietnam. I spent 5 days in Ho Chi Minh City (nee Saigon), stayed in the District 1 (not far from Ben Thanh Market and city centre). Flew up to Hanoi and stayed another 5 days in the Old Quarters. Didn't get the chance to go to Sapa (cooler air with higher altitude) maybe next time. Hanoi (Old Quarter)  Overall, I find Vietnam's foods are delicious and very healthy (with lots of bean sprout, mints, salad, soup and rice noodle) It is relatively cheap too. Oh yeah and one more thing, the locals would sit on a stool and small table by the roadside and dine. It is pretty unusual for me and I find it really unique! Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City
