The Chronicle : Borneo International Marathon

Image
Though I am still tired after the white water rafting the day before, I woke up at 5 a.m. (again!) and got myself ready for the Borneo International Marathon. Melisa registered our participation in this run months ago and she is the one who coordinated the whole marathon trip. We stayed at a cheap hotel at Kampung Air; right in the middle of Kota Kinabalu downtown. It is our second time stay in this area, the first was when we came earlier in February for the Mount Kinabalu climb. The Run (4th May 2014) So we took a taxi, it is easy because there is a taxi stand right next to the place we stayed. We paid the taxi driver RM20.00 (I know it sounds expensive..but there is a lesson to be learnt here..). The taxi driver drove us to the Likas Stadium as it is where the Marathon started. There were so many people when we reached there. It was a very exciting atmosphere as you can see not only the locals but tourists alike. There are groups of family, school kids, die-hard/hardcore ma

The Chronicle :Sungai Padas (White Water Rafting)

My second trip to Kota Kinabalu this year and this time around I'm killing two birds with one stone. I booked another trip to the Padas River in Sabah for White Water Rafting and joined a 10KM Marathon. As usual, my partner in crime would have to be Melisa. She persuaded me to join the marathon and in return I coaxed her into agreeing for a white water rafting adventure down the rapids. White Water Rafting (3 May 2014) We woke up early in the morning (5 a.m.) and headed straight to a 24-hour convenience store for a quick breakfast. The shuttle van came shortly after that. There were approximately 8-9 people in the van and our driver cum our guide; Ash drove us down to Beaufort town. It was an hour and thirty minutes drive to Beaufort. The trip would require us to take a train to the rural part of Beaufort for the starting point of the water rafting. It was a very small train (there were only three short coaches) and some of the passengers had to sit on the floor while some

From February...Come what in May....The Cronicle: The Kinabalu Climb

Image
It has been ultimately crazy for the past few months; starting in the month of February until now...May! I have been keeping myself busy with a lot of activities and did something so terrible...(I'll reveal it soon) Things that I could have never thought I would do...but I did! The View to Die for The Kinabalu Climb (23-24 February 2014) I booked for this adventure alone initially but at the very last minute I asked Melisa to join me as I think it wouldn't be fun if I had it all to myself.hehe...So we both booked through an agent (Quester Wong of Borneo Adventure Tours) and paid about RM960 fot the whole package (hotel transfer to the park, a guide, accommodation, food, park's permit & whole lots of fun! I somehow thought that it is OK to hide this trip from my mom and Mel and I told her like about 2 hours before my flight to Kota Kinabalu. Well, it was not a big surprise that she was taken aback by my action.First; for not telling her earlier about
